The Opportunity
The Ministry of Agriculture is seeking a dynamic leader for the role of Executive Director, Crops and Irrigation Branch, reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister for Regulatory and Innovation. As a member of the high-performing senior leadership team you will be involved in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Ministry’s strategic plan, with the mandate to enable a globally competitive, thriving and sustainable agriculture and food sector.
As the Executive Director, Crops and Irrigation Branch, you will be responsible to:
- Provide leadership and strategic direction to a team of motivated professionals engaged in the development and delivery of the crop and irrigation priorities to meet the Ministry’s strategic goals and Saskatchewan’s Growth Plan goals;
- Identify and make recommendations to senior officials on opportunities, constraints, policies, research and resource management to advance the crop and irrigation sectors; and
- Actively engage with stakeholders and represent the Ministry on committees, both internal and external to government.

- Knowledge of issues, trends and emerging growth opportunities impacting the agriculture sector in Saskatchewan, Canada and internationally;
- Knowledge of the crop and irrigation sectors, including relevant stakeholders and partners;
- Knowledge of government procedures including legislation, policy development and decision making, and planning and accountability;
- Experience as a visionary leader with exceptional diplomacy, well-developed written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work with, and influence, a variety of stakeholders;
- An ability to lead strategic initiatives, manage change and achieve positive results;
- Experience leading, coaching, and mentoring teams to achieve organizational goals; and
- Experience creating and sustaining an innovative and supportive environment that enables staff to achieve results.
Typically, candidates would have a master's degree in agriculture, or a combination of education and experience, as well as experience in managing people and driving results.
