The Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement provides services to the public and other ministries that support efforts to build the economy and make a better life for all Saskatchewan people. Services provided by SaskBuilds and Procurement include property management for government buildings, information technology, procurement, project management, and transportation. The Property Management Branch within SaskBuilds and Procurement manages and maintains over 700 government buildings in communities across Saskatchewan.
The Opportunity
The Property Management Branch within SaskBuilds and Procurement is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable individual to join our service team as a Tradesperson to provide support to correctional facilities in Saskatoon.
As a Tradesperson, you will apply your knowledge and expertise to maintain government-operated facilities in Saskatoon and the surrounding area, ensuring a safe and functional environment for customers and clients. Primary duties in this role include:
- Performing facility maintenance duties such as operating, maintaining and cleaning building mechanical systems and HVAC systems, including providing minor repairs to these systems;
- Performing safe and efficient operation of the boiler systems and air conditioning equipment;
- Performing general repairs, preventative maintenance, and assisting in reactionary repairs;
- Completing minor construction projects;
- Ensuring facilities and equipment are safe and are meeting operating standards; and
- Completing any additional responsibilities as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role, our ideal candidate will:
- Be flexible, responsible, and resourceful;
- Be well organized;
- Have general building repair and maintenance knowledge;
- Have knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools, principles and practices related to building trades; and
- Be able to work in physically demanding conditions and perform physical labour, lifting and climbing.
You will posses a 5th Class Power Engineers Certificate or a Fireman's Boiler Operator Certificate and Refrigeration Operator Certificate. Training will be offered to the right candidate during the probation period. A Journeyperson trade certificate and/or skidsteer training would be considered an asset.
Standard shift is Monday through Friday day schedules; however, the successful candidate will also have the ability to work during evening hours, as well as weekends and holidays to accommodate a shared standby rotation of 24 hours for seven (7) days.
